COVID-19 Policy and Procedures

The therapists and staff at New West Sports Medicine – Physiotherapy have spent considerable time developing policies and procedures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.  This document outlines the steps we will be taking to ensure the safety of our clients, staff and therapists.

PPE and Cleaning:

  • Appropriate personal protective equipment will be worn by staff and therapists at all times.  The degree of protection used will vary depending on the procedures being performed, but will at the very least include the wearing of protective masks.
  • Therapists will wash their hands between patients.
  • All equipment and treatment areas contacted by a patient will be sanitized immediately after that patient has concluded their treatment session.
  • Frequently contacted surfaces (e.g. door handles, counters, etc.) will be sanitized regularly throughout the day.

Booking Appointments:

  • Anyone who has travelled outside of BC within 14 days, or has been in contact with a suspected probable or confirmed case of COVID-19 must follow mandatory 14-day self isolation before attending physiotherapy.
  • Please provide any extended benefit or payment information when you book, so we can provide contactless transactions.
  • Intake and consent forms will  be sent to you, and are to be completed and returned electronically.
  • Cancel your appointment (no charge) if you feel unwell.  Check the BC Self Assessment tool

When you Arrive:

  • Plan to arrive at least 5 to 10 minutes early.  It is vital to be on time and prevent delays
  • Call reception when you arrive to the building (before entering).  You will be asked the following screening questions:
      1. Are you experiencing cold, flu or COVID-19-like symptoms, even mild ones?  Symptoms include: fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat and painful swallowing, stuffy or runny nose, loss of sense of smell, headache, muscle aches, fatigue or loss of appetite.
      2. Have you travelled outside Canada (including the US) within the last 14 days?
      3. Did you provide care to, or have close contact with a person with confirmed COVID-19?
      4. Did you provide care to, or have close contact with a person with confirmed COVID-19?
  • Come dressed ready for your appointment, and wear a mask.
  • Hand sanitizer will be present at reception.  Please use it.
  • Plan not to use our washroom.  Washroom access will be limited and will be discouraged unless necessary.
  • Payment will be accepted by credit/debit only.  We will not accept cash or cheques to reduce exposure to our receptionists.
  • Plan ahead.  We ask that patients do not return to reception after their appointment.  Future bookings can be made by phone.
  • Practice physical distancing.

During your Appointment:

  • You are asked to wash your hands upon entering the clinic
  • For the protection of everyone, your therapist will be wearing personal protective equipment (amount worn will vary depending on procedures provided).
  • Please stay at your assigned table throughout your appointment.  Your therapist will bring any equipment you require to you.  The open gym area will not be open.
  • You will be spaced at least 2 metres away from any other clients in the clinic.  Appointment times will be staggered to reduce traffic in/out of the building.  Treatment sessions will be primarily 1 on 1.
  • Your table and any equipment you have used will be sanitized immediately upon your departure.

After your Appointment:

  • You are asked to wash your hands prior to leaving the clinic
  • Please do not re-enter reception.  Instead, call to book future appointments.

Thank you for your help in making this phase
of our return from isolation a success.
